I packed twelve pieces for seven days in Paris, and for the first time in my life, everything came home worn. No "just in case" dress. No fourth pair of shoes. Here’s the list and the logic.
The rules I packed by
- Everything goes with everything — one palette: cream, navy, denim
- Nothing that needs ironing, because hotel irons are a lie
- Two shoes: one for 20k steps, one for dinner
The twelve pieces
- Two pairs of trousers (one navy, one cream)
- One perfect pair of jeans
- Three tees, one striped — obviously
- Two knits: a navy crewneck and a cream cardigan
- One blazer that survives being balled up in a tote
- One dress that works with sneakers and with heels
- The two shoes: white sneakers, ballet flats
The verdict
Day five is when a capsule proves itself — that’s when you’d normally hit the "nothing to wear despite a full suitcase" wall. Instead I got dressed in four minutes and went to get a croissant. Case closed.
A suitcase with options is a suitcase full of decisions you’ve postponed until a hotel room.
