Layering content always shows you the finished outfit and never the formula. But it is a formula: base, middle, shell. Once you see it, your closet roughly triples.
The three slots
- Base: a tee or thin knit — this is the color moment
- Middle: the warm layer — cardigan, crewneck, shirt jacket
- Shell: the silhouette — big coat, trench, denim jacket
Three pieces per slot, all in one palette, gives you twenty-seven combinations. Even if a third of them are bad, you’re getting dressed for two weeks without repeating.
The one rule that makes it work
Each layer has to be wearable on its own. The moment a piece only works inside one specific sandwich, it stops being a layer and becomes a costume. Costumes get worn twice a year; layers get worn every day.
